Overview

This is an excellent walk through the rugged mountains of the Trossachs, but by following an old railway it is still an easy walk and most of the route is suitable for all abilities. From Callander, the route runs north passing the impressive Falls of Leny and through woodland before joining the line of the old railway along the shores of Loch Lubnaig to the village of Strathyre.

The busy town of Callander, gateway to the Trossachs, on the banks of the river Teith.

Callander

The town of Callander is situated beneath the tallest mountain in the Trossachs, Ben Ledi, and is flanked on the south side by the River Teith. Find out about the local history of the town by visiting the Rob Roy and Trossachs Visitor Centre, where you can learn about the famous clan leader and revolutionary.

Falls of Leny

Falls of Leny & Loch Lubnaig

Most of your walk will be alongside the River Garbh Uisge. After heavy rainfall, the river produces fast-flowing rapids culminating in the Falls of Leny. This is a great spot for canoeing and kayaking. After a while, the river widens out and becomes the southern end of Loch Lubnaig, a beautiful spot to stop and relax.

The Trossachs

Strathyre

The village of Strathyre lies at the head of Loch Lubnaig, and is often described as 'the first highland village'. The village has a variety of outdoor activities for you to enjoy, including fell running and water sports. Alternatively, just relax and take in the stunning views surrounding the village.
