National Botanic Garden of Wales, Middleton Hall, Llanarthne, Carmarthenshire

The National Botanic Garden is dedicated to the protection of threatened plant species. Centred around the largest single span glasshouse in the world, the gardens are home to a stunning landscape filled with plants from Mediterranean environments. The grounds include several lakes, enabling studies of water life, and one of the largest herbaceous borders in the world.

Still in Carmarthenshire lie Aberglasney Gardens. The gardens date back over 600 years. Of particular note are the extraordinary yew tunnel and cloister garden with its parapet walk, thought to have been constructed by the Bishop of St Davids. There are also several walled gardens, a pool garden, a gatehouse and woodland areas.
