Ardington
From Gatwick head south to Ardington. First stop, Wakehurst Place Gardens - 'Kew in the Country' and home to the Millennium Seedbank. You'll find another fantastic garden at Groombridge Place, just outside the elegant spa town of Tunbridge Wells - a great place to stop for lunch.
Lamberhurst
A short hop takes you to Lamberhurst, where you can visit a ruined abbey and try the wines at one of Britain's largest vineyards. From here it is not far to Sissinghurst, once home to the famously-eccentric and aristocratic Vita Sackville-West, renowned poet, novelist and gardener.
