A bottle of Thatchers

South West England: Thatchers

Martin Thatcher is the scion of a family that has been making cider for more than a hundred years and is now Somerset’s biggest independent cider-producer. There is a lot to be optimistic about cider. After all, in Britain alone we buy an amazing 100 million gallons of the stuff a year. Four million of those, made using the same ingredients and recipes used by Martin's great-grandfather, bear the Thatchers name and can be found in the nation's supermarkets as well as in specialists and their own shop in Winscombe, Somerset

The spirit of innovation is undoubtedly alive in cider-making. Thatchers, are producing Oak-Matured Cider, conditioned in rum barrels which impart a subtle aroma and distinct touch of demerara giving the drink a smooth edge. Nothing is wasted at Thatchers – not even the apple pulp, which goes out for cattle food!
