Star spotting in London
If star spotting is your thing, there are a number of tried and tested hang-outs in Central London where the paparazzi hang out waiting to capture a snap of a hotshot. However if you want to perhaps catch one off guard, here are our suggestions. Just don’t tell them we told you.
Where: The Ivy, Covent Garden
Who: Everyone who’s anyone – regulars include Tom Cruise, Victoria & David Beckham, Elton John and George Michael.
Tip: Because it’s such a haven for celebrities, if you want to eat there, we recommend you book a few months in advance.
The Groucho Club, Soho
Who: Kate Moss, Lily Allen, Courtney Love
Tip: They say membership to the Groucho Club is more exclusive than the SAS and nearly as tough to get in – you’ll need a friend with a membership just to get near the bar
St Margarets tavern, opposite Twickenham Studios
Who: It’s served many off-duty stars of the silver screen during a quiet lunchtime – Guy Richie and Matthew Vaughn are regulars.
Tip: With Twickenham so close by, it’s also a great place to watch the Rugby.
Primrose Hill, North London
Who: Kate Moss, Jude Law, Sadie Frost and Sienna Miller are all part of the famous Primrose Hill set.
Tip: As well as being a great place to spot your favourite celebs, the view of London from the top of Primrose Hill is breathtaking – and free!
Leicester Square, Central London
Who: Most big London movie premieres happen in Leicester Square, so if you’re around at the right time, you might just spot Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, Keira Knightly, Katie Holmes, Kirsten Dunst, George Lucas, John Travolta and many, many more.
Tip: If you want to catch a glimpse of your favourite star, make sure you turn up early – fans have camped overnight outside cinemas – you’ve been warned!
The Hawley Arms, Camden
Who: Amy Winehouse, Kelly Osbourne, Johnny Borrell (Razorlight) and Kirsten Dunst have all been seen falling out of this local celebrity haunt.
Tip: It seems everyone wants a glimpse of these stars – queues can get pretty long on the weekends. Get there early to avoid disappointment!
Portobello Road, West London
Who: Girls who love their vintage – Kate Moss and Sienna Miller are regular bargain-hunters.
Tip: Portobello Road is full of treasures – from vintage clothing to antiques. Head down on a Friday or Saturday morning for the best pick – you might find yourself fighting over a jacket with Miss Moss!
