Canterbury

Canterbury has been an important player in England's history since its early beginnings as the Roman settlement of Durovernum Cantiacorum. In 597 A.D. the Pope St Augustine came to Canterbury, to convert the region back to Christianity. In recognition of this, UNESCO granted World Heritage status to part of the city, including St Martin’s Church, St Augustine’s Abbey and the Cathedral, which date back to that period.
