Enjoy Britain's countryside

Britain offers some of the most stunning natural beauty in the world. In fact, we are proud to have 49 designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, 40 National Scenic Areas, 14 National Parks and an amazing 27 World Heritage Sites, 5 of which have World Heritage status due to their outstanding natural features.

Britain is crisscrossed with national trails and countryside walks that you're free to enjoy at your leisure. In order to protect our precious natural heritage and allow visitors to continue enjoying it, it's important you take note of the Countryside Code (www.countrysideaccess.gov.uk/things_to_know/countryside_code) when discovering Britain's natural areas. Most of it's just good common sense, as it's designed to help us all to respect, protect and enjoy our countryside.

Occasionally trails and paths may be closed in order to preserve the natural heritage or for public safety. These will always be indicated so please take extra care to follow any signs and indications you come across.

Above all, feel free to continue to enjoy Britain's countryside!
